About the Balm: Tallow can keep well under refrigeration for years. Be warned that the balm can develop a strong odor if kept at room temperature for six months or more, but is perfectly safe to use. The balm may also become grainy after a few months, or if exposed to warm temperatures. If this happens, melt the balm in the oven at 120 to 150°F (49 to 56°C), and then place in the refrigerator to solidify and allow it to become smooth.
It's important to note that tallow balm consistency may vary. Tallow is a natural product that comes with its own characteristics in each batch. Some tallow will be soft, while some will be more firm.
Info about beef tallow: Tallow is comprised of natural fat-soluble vitamins A, D, and K, as well as vitamin E. These nutrients are vital for skin health, as well as health in general, and are only present in animal fats. Tallow is also made up of fats conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and palmitoleic acid. CLA provides benefits such as anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties, while palmitoleic acid has natural antimicrobial properties.
