Breathe Safe® Laboratory Air Purification Test Results

Don’t just take our word for it — see what the laboratory measured. Every performance number we publish for the Breathe Safe® portable plasma air purifier comes from an independent laboratory report, and every full report is published on this site for you to read.

Independent laboratories Full reports published Verifiable report numbers

Don’t Just Read the Claim. See the Test.

Most air-purifier marketing stops at words like “removes odors” and “freshens air.” We publish the laboratory documents instead: what was tested, under what conditions, what changed, and over how long. Each card below summarizes one report and links to the complete document — report number, lab seal, signatures and all.

VOC Test

86.4%

reduction in total volatile organic compounds (TVOC)

  • What was tested: TVOC concentration in a sealed 1 m³ test cabin (method GB 21551.6-2010).
  • What changed: 5.21 mg/m³ down to 0.707 mg/m³.
  • Duration: 4 hours of operation.
  • Lab & report: Guangdong Detection Center of Microbiology, report 2015FM5783-2E.

Particulate Test

99.68%

effective removal of PM2.5 particulates

  • What was tested: PM2.5 concentration in a sealed 1 m³ chamber (method APIAC/LM 01-2013), with a no-device control run.
  • What changed: 5.903 mg/m³ down to 0.017 mg/m³; the control chamber fell only 9.07% on its own.
  • Duration: 4 hours of operation.
  • Lab & report: Guangdong Detection Center of Microbiology, report 2015FM5786E.

Bacteria Test

46.1%

reduction in naturally occurring airborne bacteria (best of three samples)

  • What was tested: Natural bacteria in air, sealed 1 m³ chamber, per the Technical Standard for Disinfection (2002, Ministry of Health P.R. China) 2.1.3.
  • What changed: Three air samples measured 41.67%, 42.31% and 46.15% fewer colony-forming units after the run.
  • Duration: 4 hours of operation.
  • Lab & report: Guangdong Detection Center of Microbiology, report 2016FM0070E.

Oxygen Measurement

≈17%

oxygen enhancement measured 3 cm above the running unit

  • What was tested: Ambient oxygen near the device using a published zinc-air-battery sensor method, compared against routine laboratory air.
  • What changed: Sensor readings rose from 34.0 to 39.8 mA at 3 cm above the unit — the lab concluded oxygen was “enhanced about 17%” there, noting the result as a reference measurement.
  • Duration: Readings taken after 5 minutes of operation.
  • Lab & report: Scistd Testing (Qingdao) Detection Center, report SCT-A20161213-002N.

Every figure above describes the tested unit under the reported laboratory conditions — a sealed test chamber is not a living room, and we present these results as measured, not extrapolated.

Safety Measurements: Ozone and Ion Output

Ionization-based air cleaners are often questioned on two points — how many ions they actually produce, and whether they emit meaningful ozone. Both were measured on the Breathe Safe by the Guangzhou Testing Center of Industrial Microbiology:

  • Ozone: after 60 minutes of continuous operation in a 3 m³ chamber, ozone measured below 0.003 mg/m³ at 100 cm from the air outlet — effectively none detected.
  • Ion output: two reports together document the full ion picture — 1.91 × 10⁷ negative ions/cm³ (report KJ20150562) and 4.35 × 10⁶ positive ions/cm³ (report KJ20150676) measured directly above the unit, roughly 23 million total ions/cm³, against background readings below 1.00 × 10³. At a 100 cm distance the negative-ion level held near 5.4–5.9 × 10⁴ ions/cm³ in 3 m³ and 30 m³ test spaces — tens of times the levels commonly reported near large waterfalls.

Care That Protects the Results

Ion output stays at full strength — and the 1-year warranty stays valid — with one 15-second weekly brushing of the discharge plate.

How to Clean the Breathe Safe

Why I Publish Every Report

Before I was an inventor, I audited nuclear power plants as a quality assurance engineer — an industry where a number without a signed document does not exist. I carried that habit into my own products. When I developed the Breathe Safe, I paid independent laboratories to measure what it actually does to VOCs, particulates, bacteria, oxygen and ozone, and I publish every page of what came back — the strong numbers and the modest ones alike. The unit travels with me to hotel rooms and runs beside my desk, so I hold it to the same standard I would demand from anyone else: show me the test.

What Testing Does — and Doesn’t — Tell You

These reports verify how the tested unit performed on specific pollutants under controlled chamber conditions — the strongest evidence any air purifier can honestly offer. They are equipment measurements, not medical evidence: the Breathe Safe is not a medical device, and air purification has not been proven to prevent illness or disease. For how the technology itself works, start with the Breathe Safe air purifier lineup.
