Coffee Enemas

The purchase of a Coffee Enema kit is the first step towards improved digestion and the removal of toxins from the body. Whether you have purchased the stainless steel bucket or the supple bag, the use of this equipment with the following steps will have you on your way to feeling great.

Getting started
Select the type of coffee you wish to use for the enema. It is best to use organically grown coffee, but any brand of regular coffee will suffice, including regular grind or flaked, non-instant and not decaffeinated, or your own ground coffee. Store opened containers of coffee in the freezer for maximum freshness.

Amount of water and brewed coffee
To prepare the enema, pour 2 cups of purified water and 2-3 tablespoons of the coffee mixture from the jar into the enema bag or bucket.
NOTE: You may use less water (or less coffee) if you find it is too difficult to retain the recommended amounts. However, it is even more helpful for cleansing the colon to use up to a quart (4 cups) of water.

Prepare the coffee
We recommend purchasing a stainless steel coffee percolator to prepare your coffee. We do not suggest using a coffee maker unless it is a high-end unit with stainless steel internal parts. If you do not have either of these appliances, you may prepare your coffee using one of the alternate methods described below. You can also choose to make larger quantities that outlined here if you wish to save and use for many enemas.

Percolator (Preferred Method):
1. Measure 2-3 cups of purified water and 2-3 tablespoons of coffee into the percolator.
2. Turn the heat on high and allow coffee to brew for 7-10 minutes.
3. When done, allow the coffee to sit for a couple minutes. If the solution contains coffee grounds, pour through a fine strainer or coffee filter into a clean enema bag or bucket.

Boiling:
1. Measure 2-3 cups of purified water and 2-3 tablespoons of coffee into a saucepan. Bring to a boil.
2. Let liquid boil for 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and allow it to cool. Ice cubes can be added to speed up the cooling process.
3. Once the water is cool to the touch, filter it through a fine strainer or coffee filter into a clean enema bag or bucket.

Non-Boiling (Least Preferred Method):
1. Measure 1 cup of ground coffee and 2 cups of water into a container. Thoroughly stir together, and allow the mixture to soak overnight.
2. The next morning, filter the liquid through a fine strainer or coffee filter into a storage jar to place in the refrigerator.

How to prepare the enema
• Make sure the plastic hose is securely attached to the bag or bucket with the thin enema tip attached to the other end.
• Remove air from the enema tube by grasping (be careful not to close) the hose clamp. Place the tip in the sink and hold the bag or bucket over the tip until water flows out. Close the clamp to expel air from the tube.
• Lubricate the enema tip with only a small amount of soap or oil.

How to take the enema
We recommend at least one enema per day to enhance liver activity and help the detoxification process.
1. It is best to do the enema following a bowel movement to make it easier to retain. If this is not possible, you may try a plain water enema first to clean out the colon.
2. Get in a comfortable position. Most people prefer to lie on their back on a towel, either in a bath tub or on the bathroom floor. You may also find it helpful to place a small pillow or rolled up towel underneath your buttocks to assist the downhill water flow.
3. Place the enema equipment next to you on the floor with the clamp closed. If using the enema bag, you may also hang it about a foot above your abdomen.
4. Slowly insert the tip and move it around until it is all the way in.
5. Open the clamp to allow the water to flow. It may take a few seconds. If using the enema bag, you may gently squeeze the bag to help enable the flow.
6. Close the clamp once all the liquid is inside. You may choose to leave the tube inserted or slowly remove it.
7. Retain the enema for 15 minutes. We do not recommend walking around the house while retaining the enema, but if you are able, you can relocate to lie down on a towel in bed.
8. Empty out the mixture into the toilet after 15 minutes. There is no harm if you wish to retain the enema for longer.
9. Thoroughly wash the enema equipment and tube with soap and water.

Additional tips
• We do not recommend taking coffee enemas in the evening due to interference with sleep.
• Exercise before the enema can help eliminate intestinal gas.
• If you experience any cramping during the enema process, close the hose clamp, rotate from side to side, and take a few deep breaths. Cramps usually pass quickly.
