The habit that keeps a good kit good
People research which kit to buy for weeks, then improvise the part that actually determines how the kit performs a year later: how it is cleaned, dried and stored. This is the care routine we recommend for any enema equipment — bucket or bag, silicone or stainless — and it takes about three minutes after each use. Do this while the equipment is still wet — residue that dries becomes the film that shortens tubing life.

| 2. Wash | A drop of unscented castile or mild dish soap in the vessel; swirl, then run soapy water through the tubing. |

| 4. Hang | Hang the tubing straight so it drains from both ends; leave the vessel upside down at an angle so air circulates. |
Once a week, give the whole kit a longer soak: a vessel of warm water with either a splash of white vinegar or a non-chlorine oxygen cleaner, drawn through the tubing and left to stand for fifteen minutes, then rinsed thoroughly. Stainless vessels can additionally be washed in hot soapy water like any pot. Avoid chlorine bleach on silicone parts — it shortens their life and leaves an odour that takes days to fade.
Moisture is the whole game. Tubing coiled while wet stays wet inside for days; hung straight, it is dry by morning. Once fully dry, store the kit in a breathable bag — cotton rather than sealed plastic — away from direct sunlight, which ages silicone and vinyl. A dedicated hook in a closet does the job better than a drawer.
Tubing is a consumable. Replace it when it clouds, stiffens, develops surface cracks at the ends, or carries any odour after a proper deep clean. Nozzle tips are personal-use items: keep them dedicated to one person, and replace on the same signs. Vessels last for years; tubing is typically an annual item with regular use.
Hygiene note: a kit is personal equipment. Do not share tubing or tips between household members — give each person their own, and label them.

My own habit is exactly the table above — the rinse happens before anything else, while the kettle for the next morning's coffee is still warm. No — heat deforms it and the detergents leave residue. Hand-flush with mild soap and hang to dry. Stainless vessels tolerate hot hand-washing well.
Ordinary warm tap water is fine for washing. The thorough final rinse matters more than the water used for the soapy stage.
Flush under pressure from the tap, then stand it upright to drain. A soft bottle brush sized for the opening helps with weekly cleans.
For routine personal equipment care, the wash-rinse-dry cycle does most of the work and the weekly vinegar or oxygen-cleaner soak covers the rest. Complete dryness between uses is the step that matters most.
