How to Jump Higher: The Spinal Alignment Most Programs Ignore

By Eileen Durfee, inventor & Nationally Certified Spinal Fitness Specialist

Vertical jump is a force-transfer problem as much as a leg-strength problem. If your trunk collapses at takeoff, force that should launch you leaks away into holding your body together.

Your spine is the transmission

Ground force has to travel through the trunk to become height. A spine holding its curves transfers that force efficiently; a collapsed or flexed trunk absorbs and scatters it. That is why two athletes with similar leg strength can jump very differently — the difference is how well each transmits force through the spine.

Build the platform, then the spring

Restore the S-shaped structure and trunk control first, so your legs have a stable base to push against. Then plyometric and strength work has something solid to transfer through.

Fix the structure, not just the symptom

The 5-step Spinal Fitness system restores the curves that carry load.

FAQ

Will fixing my posture add to my vertical?

A stable, well-aligned trunk transfers more force into the jump instead of losing it to compensation. It works alongside strength and plyometric training.
