Why Does My Lower Back Hurt? The Structural Answer
By Eileen Durfee, inventor & Nationally Certified Spinal Fitness Specialist
If your lower back keeps hurting no matter how much you stretch, rest, or “sit up straight,” there may be a structural reason the usual fixes miss.
Stretching a tight muscle can ease a symptom for a while. But if the underlying lumbar curve has flattened and segmental control is missing, the body will keep pulling back into the same posture — and the tightness, fatigue, and guarding return. Lasting back health takes more than stretching, strengthening, or sitting up straight: the goal is to reduce irritation, rebuild capacity, and restore a mechanically favorable posture so the body can resist strain instead of constantly compensating for it.
Missing curve and control lead to a cycle: tightness → fatigue → strain → guarding → altered movement → re-irritation. Breaking it means changing the structure the cycle rests on, not just chasing the symptom at the end of it.
The 5-step Spinal Fitness system restores the curves that carry load.
