Anterior Pelvic Tilt: Why It Happens and How to Restore Neutral
By Eileen Durfee, inventor & Nationally Certified Spinal Fitness Specialist
Your pelvis is the foundation the whole spine stacks on. When it rotates out of neutral — an anterior pelvic tilt tips the top of the pelvis forward — every curve above it has to compensate.
Posture is a chain, and the pelvis is its base. Tip the pelvis and the lumbar curve is thrown off, the ribcage and upper back shift to rebalance, and the head follows. That is why chasing only the symptom higher up rarely holds — the base keeps re-creating the pattern. Restore neutral pelvic control and the curves above have a stable platform to organize around.
Stretching tight hip flexors can ease a symptom, but if the abdominal and pelvic control that hold the pelvis neutral are missing, it tips right back. Lasting change comes from training that control — pelvic tilts and supported anterior core work — so the pelvis can hold neutral on its own.
The 5-step Spinal Fitness system restores the curves that carry load.
