How to Fix Rounded Shoulders
By Eileen Durfee, inventor & Nationally Certified Spinal Fitness Specialist
Rounded shoulders rarely start at the shoulders. They are usually the visible end of a chain that begins lower down — which is why “pull your shoulders back” never seems to hold.
When the pelvis tips out of neutral, the lower-back curve flattens and the upper back (thoracic spine) rounds. A rounded upper back carries the shoulders forward with it, and the head drifts forward to keep the eyes level. Try to hold only the shoulders back and the base is still pulling them forward — so the moment you stop bracing, they roll again.
The 5-step Spinal Fitness system restores the curves that carry load.
