Sports Injury Prevention: Build the Structure That Resists Injury
By Eileen Durfee, inventor & Nationally Certified Spinal Fitness Specialist
A lot of injury-prevention work chases symptoms — a tight muscle here, a sore joint there. Lasting resilience comes from changing the structure those symptoms sit on.
When the spinal curves and control are compromised, the body gets stuck in a cycle: tightness leads to fatigue, fatigue to strain, strain to guarding, guarding to altered movement, and altered movement back to re-irritation and injury. Stretching or icing the end of that loop does not change the loop.
The goal is to reduce irritation, rebuild capacity, and restore a mechanically favorable posture so the body can resist strain instead of constantly compensating for it. An athlete whose spine transfers force efficiently and holds its curves under load has far less to compensate for — and far less that breaks down.
The 5-step Spinal Fitness system restores the curves that carry load.
